Bio
Dr. House is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and completed his general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed Complex General Surgical Oncology and Hepatopancreatobiliary Fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before joining Indiana University School of Medicine in 2008. He has served as Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology since 2019. His clinical interests in surgical oncology include the management of primary and secondary hepatic neoplasms, bile duct tumors, benign and malignant diseases of the pancreas, gastric cancer and sarcoma.
Dr. House was honored with the IU Health President's Values Leadership Award in 2025. He served as interim Chair of the Department of Surgery within the IU School of Medicine in 2021. He is the Co-Director of the IU Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Pancreatic Cancer Program. His dedication to teaching has been recognized with an IU School of Medicine Trustees Teaching Award and Inspirational Educator Award. He is co-editor of the surgical textbook, Clinical Decisions in Surgery, and serves on the editorial boards for Annals of Surgery, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery. Dr. House has co-authored more than 250 peer-reviewed research publications.
Dr. House is a member of the American Surgical Association and Halsted Society. He is active in many national professional organizations where he holds leadership positions including Executive Secretary for the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.
