Our faculty are leading hundreds of clinical studies to address today's greatest health challenges.
Featured study
Developing interventions to support the management of oral anticancer medications in patients with breast cancer
The study aims to develop an early prototype intervention to support patients diagnosed with breast cancer who are receiving orally administered anticancer medication.
Research is at the core of everything we do. By discovering new treatments and understanding which ones work best, we can make progress toward future breakthroughs for the people of Indiana and worldwide.

Making a difference in critical areas of medicine
IU School of Medicine is the only academic medical institution in Indiana, and the largest medical school in the United States. The School of Medicine offers cutting-edge clinical trials to patients across Indiana. Physician-scientists from every medical specialty are advancing detection and treatment for diseases through clinical studies — the most clincal trials of any university in Indiana.
Collaboration leads to innovation
Our faculty work together in research teams and partner with other universities to advance medical knowledge. Through collaboration, we accelerate research from the lab to treatment. Strong partnerships with Indiana hospitals and global biomedical companies generate research and implement discoveries to benefit individual patient outcomes and overall health.
Indiana impact
Hoosiers are the beating heart of our research efforts. Faculty at IU School of Medicine search for new ways to treat or prevent critical diseases affecting Indiana. Our work builds hope and progress for today's patients and future generations.
For example, in 1974 Lawrence H. Einhorn, MD, developed the cure for testicular cancer through a chemotherapy treatment that included the platinum-based drug cisplatin along with two additional drugs. Today, more than 50 years after the cure was discovered, it is estimated that more than 400,000 lives in the United States alone have been saved thanks to the expertise of Dr. Einhorn.
Faculty at IU School of Medicine are among the nation's top experts in today's greatest health challenges. On any given day, our scientists are leading hundreds of clinical studies and running countless experiments in the lab. Our work focuses on critical areas of medicine like Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, pediatrics, musculoskeletal health, traumatic brain injury, diabetes and immunotherapy. The next groundbreaking cure — like Dr. Einhorn's — will be fueled by research already underway at IU School of Medicine.
